My Approach

Grooming is about far more than appearance.
It is an essential part of your dog’s physical and emotional health.
Through regular, thoughtful grooming, I am able to help prevent and identify skin conditions, parasites, and other issues that can impact long term wellbeing.I offer private, one on one grooming sessions so your dog receives my full attention in a
calm, quiet environment.
Using fear free and force free methods, I focus on gentle handling, patience, and your dog’s comfort at every stage of the groom. I never rush or use restraint based techniques, allowing each dog to feel safe and supported.Just as importantly, grooming helps build confidence and positive associations with handling.
These gentle experiences encourage trust and tolerance, which can carry through to veterinary visits, interactions with children, and unfamiliar situations throughout your dog’s life.
My goal is not only a beautifully groomed dog, but one who leaves feeling relaxed,
confident, and cared for.

Born and raised in South Africa, I have had a lifelong love and deep respect for animals. From a very young age, I was naturally drawn to learning about different breeds, their behaviour, temperaments, and the individual needs that make each dog unique. Animals have always been a constant in my life, shaping bothmy values and the way I approach my work today.I completed my grooming apprenticeship in 2008 and began my career working in a veterinary clinic, where I gained extensive hands on experience caring for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Working in a clinical setting taught me far more than grooming techniques alone. It gave me a deep understanding of canine health, body language, and stress signals, and showed me how important calm, compassionate handling is for a dog’s overall wellbeing. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for providing gentle, low stress grooming experiences, particularly for dogs who may feel anxious, sensitive, or unsure. With this foundation, I continued to grow my skills and knowledge over the years, always prioritizing the emotional experience of the dog just as much as the final groom. I strongly believe that grooming should never be rushed or forced, and that trust is built through patience, consistency, and respect. In 2023, I opened my own home based salon with the intention of creating a peaceful, familiar environment where dogs can feel safe, supported, and unhurried. I wanted to step away from the busy, high volume salon model and offer something more personal.I am a certified Fear Free groomer and Alberta Force Free certified, and my approach is rooted in gentle, compassionate handling. I never use force, intimidation, or restraint based methods. Every grooming session is thoughtfully tailored to your dog’s comfort level, emotional state, and individual needs on that day. This approach not only reduces stress during grooming, but helps build long term confidence and positive associations with handling. With 18 years of professional grooming experience, I have had the privilege of caring for countless dogs throughout my career. There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing a dog leave my studio relaxed, confident, and comfortable in their own skin. Those quiet moments of trust, tail wags, and calm body language are what make this work so meaningful. When I am not grooming, I enjoy spending time with my own dog, Honey, and exploring the beautiful outdoors of Alberta. I also love expressing my creativity through painting, baking and cooking and photography. These moments of creativity and connection bring balance to my life and continually inspire the care,
patience, and attention to detail I bring into my work.

De-matting Policy

Pets with severely matted coats require extra attention. Mats in a pet’s coat grow tight, and can ultimately damage and tear the pet’s skin, which provides a breeding ground for parasite infestations. CCS will not cause serious or undue stress to your pet by de matting them. Mats can be very difficult to remove, and may require the pet to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts or abrasions due to skin growths trapped in the mats. Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet’s skin allowing mold, fungus or bacteria to grow, producing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process. After- effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, bruising, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions and failure of the hair to grow. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes. It is the OWNERS duty of care towards their pet to maintain the coat between professional grooming. If owners fail to attend to their pets’ coat, then in the interests of the animal, I will shave off matted areas to prevent unnecessary suffering. I will be more than happy to show you how to look after your dogs’ coat. When a dog is presented to me in a severely matted condition, it is my policy to shave the whole coat using electric clippers with a close blade. To de-matt would cause the animal tremendous stress and discomfort, often leaving a very thinned and damaged coat. Shaving the coat is quicker and kinder to dog. Many dogs are traumatized by unnecessary hours of de-matting, putting them off grooming for life. I consider shaving an act of kindness. NOTE: DEMATTING CAN BE A LENGTHY & TEDIOUS EXERCISE FOR BOTH THE GROOMER AND THE DOG & ADDITIONAL TIME WILL BE CHARGED. I charge $15 for every 15 minutes (or $1 per minute) spent dematting and if I say its safe to do so . As Treatments may vary slightly with certain dog breeds, prices are subject to an initial consultation. Dogs that need de-matting and/or bite may incur additional fees. Prevention is the best defense by scheduling regular grooming appointments, every 6-8 weeks. If your pet needs to be shaved to remove matting, by reading this and booking your appointment, you acknowledge that you agree to this procedure, and any risk. There will be an additional charge for this process: it is time consuming, and causes extra wear and tear on grooming equipment.

About Fear Free & Force Free

I want to make sure your pet feels safe, secure, and comfortable when visiting. My strategies revolve around reducing the anxiety for your pet and making grooming a calming experience. I do so by:

  • Minimizing restraint with special handling techniques that are gentle and accommodate your pet’s comfort level

  • Treats for positive association or distraction

  • Toys provided as a distraction during stressful events

  • “Happy Hoodie” during blow-drying to minimize loud sounds

  • Accommodating the grooming process to your pet’s needs, phobias, and comfortability.

  • No Kennels

  • Soft orthopedic surface on table to stand/lay on.

  • Your dog is given a choice, nothing is forced during the grooming process which will cause your dog stress.

  • Only take 4 appointments per day

  • Use of calming dog friendly pheromones (adaptil spray) .

  • Home based studio with calm atmosphere

Introduction & Acclimatization

I take time to introduce myself to the dog and establish a bond based on trust. I allow the dog to explore the grooming area at their own pace, sniffing the tools and becoming familiar with the environment. This step helps reduce anxiety and creates a positive association with the grooming space.

Positive Reinforcement

I use positive reinforcement techniques to reward the dog for calm and cooperative behavior. Treats, praise, and gentle petting are used as rewards for the dog's cooperation. This encourages the dog to associate grooming with positive experiences and builds their trust in me.

Environment

The grooming area is prepared to be comfortable and calming for the dog. This includes minimizing noise, using soothing music, ensuring appropriate lighting, and providing a cozy and secure space for the dog to relax.

Gradual Approach

The grooming process is introduced gradually, allowing the dog to become comfortable with each step. The groomer may start with simple and less invasive tasks
